Event  #1  Results!

the 2011 HCKAC Slam Tournament Series was held on Saturday Feb 5, 2011. The launch boundaries for this event were from Bullfrog Creek to Miguel Bay on the Tampa Bay "South Shore". The first of our 6 events scheduled in 2011 was a 2-Man team tournament. 17 Hardcore teams signed in at 5:30 a.m., got their tokens, and departed for their launch spots at 6 a.m.

Conditions were overcast with moderate temperatures in the low 60's at launch time and were predicted to climb into the 70's by afternoon. Winds were variable around 10 mph from the South at launch time, but they quickly picked up to near 15 mph and shifted from the West as a weather front moved through the area.

Our weigh-in was held at Cherry's Bar & Grill in Apollo Beach. As usual, they reserved the large patio area for us and made us very comfortable. The wait staff did a remarkable job of taking food & drink orders and serving our large group very promptly. Thanks Cherry's !

Thanks also to HCKAC member Josh Maitland (YakSlammer) for taking such awesome photos of the weigh-in. He's definitely got skills !

Even though conditions like these can make the fishing unpredictable, 15 of the 17 teams presented fish at the weigh-in. Several over-slot Trout were caught as well as many upper-slot and a few over-slot Redfish. As typical since the large Snook kill in the Winter of 2010, the Snook seemed the most elusive. However, 5 of the 17 teams returned with full inshore Slams to their credit.
1st place: $340 to Team Snatch Masters (Spencer and Cameron) with a 73" Slam.

Image

2nd place: $204 to Team Slayem (Walt and Andrew) with a 63.75" Slam

Image

3rd place: $136 to Team Prowler (Mark and Brian Jones) with a 63.5"Slam

Image

Largest Snook: Russ (Team Seein'Green) 24 inches - won a Breathe-Like-A-Fish shirt

Image

Largest Red: Rusty (Team Reaper) 28 inches - won a $40 gift certificate from Canoe Country Outfitters

Image

Largest Trout: Bill (Team Heritage) 22.9 inches - won a $25 gift certificate from Dogfish Tackle

Event 2 Results

We held our 2nd of 6 scheduled events for the HCKAC 2011Tournament Series on Saturday April 30th in the Weedon Island area.

This tournament was the 1st of 3 individual format events for the year. 24 HardCore Club anglers met on the Gandy beach for sign-in and rules overview from 5-5:30 a.m. It almost never fails that we have HardCore weather for each of our events. As for Saturday, Mrs. Mother Nature greeted us with air temperatures in the mid-60’s and a stiff 15-20 mph East wind at launch time. All the participants were happy to find procure sample scents and and Skwoosh teathers as part of the captains bag along with SWC decal packs.

Although the team was upbeat, we all knew it would be a very challenging day on the water. Some anglers chose to brave the paddle South to flats & pass areas at Weedon, some launched inside of Weedon Preserve, and others launched on the North side of Gandy in the hopes that their float plan would result in a Slam large enough to make it into the money.
